Mathieu, aka Vintage Addict, is a 30-year-old painter with a passion for old cars and American vintage culture. A former baker, he took the plunge almost by chance when he painted his first enamel plate, unable to afford one. Since then, he's been transforming vintage objects, car parts and other materials into one-of-a-kind creations. His work revisits popular icons with humor and authenticity, offering collectors works imbued with both memory and modernity.
Vintage Addict's universe is inspired by American garages, retro advertising and popular icons from the 50s to the 80s. Hand-painted with body paint, her works combine lettering, pinstriping and misappropriation. Oil cans, plates and vintage objects become the medium of expression, charged with patina and history. Influenced by his painter brother and by US signage, he gives new life to forgotten objects, transforming the ordinary into the singular. His approach shows that memory has a soul, and that an object from the past can still surprise and embellish everyday life.
