Fue a los 12 años cuando Bernard DEVIE descubrió su interés por el arte y, en particular, por la pintura. Por falta de espacio en el taller de teatro, su escuela le ofreció el taller de pintura, donde floreció rápidamente. Después se dedicó a la arquitectura, pero pronto se dio cuenta de que el trabajo y la vida en una agencia no le convenían. Bernard se dedicó entonces a enseñar a niños pequeños y dedicó sus tardes a clases de pintura y modelado. El artista se instala en Grenoble en 1974, luego en Lyon en 1988 y divide su vida entre la enseñanza y el arte. A mediados del año 2000, decide dedicarse plenamente a la pintura.

Inspired by traditional Japanese imagery and Aztec art, Bernard DEVIE follows in the footsteps of the "elsewhere" and the past. If, at first, he worked on rather vivid colors, he finally opted for an almost monochrome style, with a metallic aspect. His works combine modeling and painting. The artist first works a modeling acrylic coating on each surface of the drawing. He places prints (lace, doily, paper, sponge...) and various traces of comb or spatula. Different layers of paint are then added and varnished to give the final touch to the work.
