Initially fascinated by insects, today I also paint giraffes herds, schools of fish or portraits of mice.
Herve creció en el sur del Mediterráneo y nada le predestinaba a una carrera artística. Comenzó su vida laboral de forma bastante caótica y desempeñó varias profesiones antes de trabajar en la metalurgia durante 8 años. Empezó a pintar por casualidad. Al mudarse y decorar su apartamento, buscó obras de arte basadas en animales, pero al no encontrar nada, empezó a crear y decorar las paredes con sus propias pinturas. Su familia descubrió entonces su talento y le animó a convertirse en artista. Diversos encuentros y colaboraciones con empresas de decoración dieron a Hervé la oportunidad de pintar libremente y exponer por primera vez. Colaboró en la obra de cerámica de otro artista y la experiencia le convenció para emprender una carrera artística. Más fabulista que naturista, Hervé dota de complejidad a sus personajes animales, transformando el bestiario heredado de la tradición medieval, las pinturas rupestres y el arte del Lejano Oriente.
He begins his works with sand and a palette of pigments on brown paper and linen canvas. Then he refines the work using gouache, Indian ink and sometimes charcoal. As he works he diversifies his materials, even to the point of incorporating ashes or marble. Hervé enjoys this diversity, which enriches the colours, tones and effects. Throughout the evolution of his work, one constant remains: the natural tones which the artist keeps from the original use of sand. The animals seem to emerge from the earth and are surprised to be being watched. Hervé finds in these beings all the moods and feelings that he wishes to express and share with humour.
