Lee nació y creció en una ciudad portuaria del noreste de Inglaterra. Desde muy joven se sintió atraído por las artes. A los dieciocho años estudió Bellas Artes en la Universidad de Chester. Durante su formación, sus profesores le animaron a superarse y esforzarse. En 2008, Lee se graduó con honores y regresó a su ciudad natal, donde comenzó su carrera artística. Trabajó incansablemente en busca de su propio lenguaje artístico, construyendo sus lienzos y probando muchas técnicas diferentes. Pero un acontecimiento en su vida le apartó de su pasión durante algún tiempo. De vuelta en Chester, retomó la pintura y se instaló en un tranquilo estudio en el campo. While his artistic influences have followed the evolution of his style, Lee appreciates artists such as Jackson Pollock, Gerhard Richter and Alexis Harding.
Lee uses an original mix of oil, varnish and acrylic. He uses a spatula and knife to create substance and give the painting a special energy and depth. The colour is scratched in places, revealing the background through transparency. The artist thickens the foreground of his compositions by overlapping layers of paint and adding plaster and splatters. Accidental or deliberate, each spot is involved in the overall harmony.
The artist paints from memory landscapes observed during his travels through England. By using a fleeting memory, he can focus on a more abstract and expressive approach to the subject.
