Settimia Taroux
Color causes a psychic vibration. And its superficial psychic effect is only the means by which it reaches the soul. Wassily Kandinsky
A talented and atypical designer, Settimia discovered her artistic side at an early age. As a child, she admired the illustrations in her storybooks and was already dreaming of creating her own images. She soon took up drawing and painting, attending a series of courses and workshops before naturally turning to art studies. Surrounded by her family's love of sewing and embroidery, she found her own style by combining her passions for traditional painting and textile arts. Today, Settimia exhibits regularly throughout France.
Combining abstraction and figuration, Settimia's style embodies the subtle, sensitive encounter between painting and textiles. In her studio, it all begins with a search for everyday or recycled fabrics, mainly women's tights. Like a second skin on the canvas, the artist plays with transparency and combines new nuances and textures by superimposing successive layers of acrylic and fiber. Her inspirations are varied, ranging from Leonardo da Vinci to 19th-century full-length portraits and Baroque vanitas. She also admires the work of Annette Messager, Sheila Hicks and support/surface artists such as Lucio Fontana. In her works, which combine a seductive harmony of color with the carnal aspect of stitching, Settimia evokes the human condition and our relationship with the body, which is as fascinating as it is poisonous.
