Hévin Christian
I paint, I try to master my painting as well as possible, it inhabits me and I live with it.
Christian grew up in northern France and began drawing at an early age. At the age of 7, he produced his first oil painting and dreamed of becoming a painter. As a teenager, a teacher noticed his talent and encouraged him to study drawing. It was a revelation, and on leaving high school he entered the Lille School of Fine Arts. His career began with jobs closely related to painting: architectural draftsman, theater decorator, graphic designer, illustrator. In his spare time, he continues to create for pleasure. In the course of his professional experiences, certain encounters helped to encourage him: Jacques Carelman (illustrator of Catalogue d'objets introuvables) during joint projects for theater sets, and Véra Molnar (Franco-Hungarian artist) during a digital image competition. His contact with these artists enriched his pictorial experience, guiding him towards surrealism and hyperrealism.
Christian's sources of inspiration are diverse: nature, the urban environment, images from magazines, scanned and diverted... Contemporary artists such as Robert Rauschenberg, Pierre Soulages, Hans Hartung, Zao Wou-Ki and Chu Teh Chun also influence his artistic research. The artist uses oil paint (which he makes himself), epoxy or polyester resin, pigments and acrylic.
Sometimes on the edge of reality and abstraction, Christian opens new doors to a painting in perpetual evolution. More often than not, a straightforward abstraction is used to stage light, inviting the viewer to discover the invisible or the suggested. Through his work, Christian aims to conjure up images that are likely to create sensitivity, emotion and reaction...
