Coco Rohart

Cocoline is a young French artist who has always been drawn to art, painting and colour. As a child she spent a lot of time in her grandfather's art studio and fell in love with plastic art classes. She also studied music and played the saxophone. She even got a music diploma. Cocoline graduated from Sciences Po Aix and Université Paris Dauphine before working in New York, Paris and Los Angeles. The artist NUSHKA introduced her to oil painting in 2017 and she got a taste for it. She naturally got back into painting and opened her studio in Marseille in 2020. Cocoline met the figurative artist Sarah Sedwick in 2021 who became her mentor. She taught her how to master colour and composition.
Cocoline mainly uses oil paint that she pairs with other mediums such as wax and acrylic to create different results. She paints alla prima, meaning staight on the canvas or on a wet layer. The artist completes most of her canvases in one sitting using a model in her studio or photos she's taken beforehand. The painter's signature theme is women from mythology and the present day. Cocoline sees women through kind, gentle and grateful eyes and tries to depict them differently to get away from the usual portrayal of women's bodies as sexual or maternal. Painting has helped Cocoline to feel better and more confident; she hopes to do the same to make women feel beautiful and free.
