My goal is to make sensitive this Unknown (space) that the senses cannot perceive.
As a child, Eric was introduced to oil painting by an artist uncle. He painted figurative works for pleasure but it was not until he was thirty-five years old that he decided to explore ways to create a more personally-oriented abstraction. He then opened an art space in Salon-de-Provence (gallery, framing and fine art materials) and met many artists. He intensified his artistic research and spent more time and energy on his work, finally becoming a professional artist in 2006. At home in the Provence countryside, surrounded by olive trees, Eric pursues his passion. Through his work, Eric wants the viewer to connect to the infinitely distant, not lose it in contemplation, and to bring him back to his human nature as it relates to the whole. As a piece of this universe, Eric tries to move the spectator by his depictions.
He uses a mixed technique with copper foil, using the brightness of the material and the effects of its oxidation by chemicals. He seeks to combine art and chemistry in order to magnify the properties of copper, which leads to vibrant works, full of light and transparency. Gilding, materials and colours are mixed in his work. Eric is part of the lyrical abstraction movement, represented by such works as those of the Franco-Chinese painter, Zao WouKi. The planet, as a sphere floating in space, is the main source of inspiration. A singular colour observed in the universe, the sun gilds and glorifies its surface, and the omnipresence of water, with all the nuances and variations of light, are all images that fill the artist’s eye.
