Fred Boutet | Contemporary Artist: Artworks & Biography

Fred Boutet
  • France
Originally from Bordeaux, Fred began his career at a very young age as a vineyard worker in his native Gironde. A self-taught painter since 2000, he divides his time between his two jobs in order to meet his needs as much as his passion.\nFirst resolutely abstract, his painting has, in recent years, evolved towards a more figurative style whose main theme is the sea. His deep attachment to the subjects related to the maritime space is born from a personal meeting of the geographical situation where he resides with the memory of his father, a sailor by profession. Indeed, strongly influenced by the many stories told by his father, Fred gives us his visual and plastic interpretation of these maritime voyages brought back from the four corners of the globe. Richly colored, his paintings are executed with acrylic and worked with a brush or a knife. Through his pictorial technique, the painter seeks to retranscribe the duality of strength and softness, agitation and calm inherent in any natural environment. He translates this contrast, this physical rivalry, thanks to the pronounced use of the colors which "clash, mix, tangle, to finally give all its relief to the canvas". The horizon and the sea join, mix, to form only one element of which the sailboats, only physical representatives of the terrestrial world, would be the only residents. Timeless and geographically indefinable, his paintings seek to capture the perpetual inconstancy of the marine element.
