Luc Langeron

Making his subject resonate, such is the ultimate goal of Luc Langeron. His recent works, somewhere between sculpture and painting, are drifting towards abstraction, mixing wood, plaster, ochre and acrylic.

The pattern of the strips of wood, irregular by nature, plays with light and shade to accentuate the strong textures. The transparency of a glossy varnish on top of the saturated colours reinforces the impression of movement.

“The surprising thing is that when you split the wood find that it is always cut in its own unique way, so that two pieces of wood will never have the same cut or the same age. I make use all of this to create strips of wood where one oscillates in these patterns of construction between the fullness and emptiness of the wood…”

He acknowledges that he needed to work on the depth and the volume of his painting. “Wood, an extraordinary material, gave me that opportunity because it retains the original volume.”
