Moritz Rimbaud

  • Spain
  • Painter

Born in the capital of Chile during the military dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet, the young MoRitz was brought by his mother to Argentina, where he was to be raised and educated. At the age of seven, he followed ceramics, drawing and painting classes in a small local art academy, and at 13 started to become interested in music by practicing the guitar by himself. Subsequently, he joined several music groups. At 18, he joined his father in San Francisco in the United States, where he began painting while continuing to develop his taste for music.

When he emigrated to Spain in 2008, his passion for artistic creation intensified. Since then, he has worked diligently on developing his pictorial practice, drawing inspiration from the works of masters of painting, among others Rembrandt (1606-1669), Paul Gauguin (1848-1903), Jackson Pollock (1912-1956), Yves Klein (1928-1962) or Pierre Soulages (born in 1919) and Odd Nerdrum (born in 1944).

The minimalist style of MoRitz, developed over the years with patience and passion, is as much nourished by his love of music as by his passion for colour. As such, his compositions on paper are executed using tools created by the artist himself, associated with various techniques such as oil painting, enamel, silicone, natural pigments etc. Similar to scores of music, the works of MoRitz bear witness to a perpetual search for texture and light that translate into a geometrically original and resolutely contemporary language.
