The sandbanks on the Loire give this river a special character; the Loire is never the same, as floods and droughts cause its bed to vary, resulting in ever-changing landscapes. This picture was painted in Bouchemaine, near Angers. The particular color of the Loire skies and the luminosity of the sand on a fine summer's day are striking.
