Grigore DONTU is a painter from Moldavia. From a very young age, he nourished a passion for painting and drawing. As a teenager, he joined an evening school of plastic arts, which marked the beginning of his artistic career. He then trained at the Faculty of Plastic and Graphic Arts in Chisinau, Moldova, and joined various associations and international unions of artists. He then moved to France, where he joined the School of Fine Arts in Marseille for a year. The painter then participates in many fairs and summer events in Provence. He also participated in exhibitions in Germany, the Netherlands and Switzerland, as well as in group exhibitions organized by the Union of Plastic Artists of Moldova.

Grigore DONTU's favourite artists include several Impressionist masters such as Claude Monet, Edouard Manet, Paul Cézanne, Alfred Sisley, Konstantin Korovin, Isaac Levitan, Mikhail Vroubel, Maurice Utrillo and Nicolae Grigorescu. Since the Moldovan artist moved to France, he's been caught up in the atmosphere at cafés, bars and brasseries, Provence's markets, plane tree leaves and tonal bark. These are the very same landscapes that he portrays in his work with the sun-drenched warm colours of Provence. The artist enjoys working outdoors to capture the play on light and contrast so he can bond with the nature he portrays in his art.
