Félix Aberasturi
- France
- Painter
Felix grew up in Argentina, and has always fascinated by his European roots, as his mother was Italian. He studied architecture at the University of Buenos Aires while also attending various workshops of renowned painters, where he took his first steps towards becoming an artist. He began exhibiting as a painter and artist in Argentina, but he eventually heard the call of his roots and he decided to go back to the ""old world"". He chose Paris, where he would begin his career again as an architect and visual artist.
Felix works in layers that fit together and interfere with one other, creating a series of encrypted messages in the background of his works. The artist composes and recomposes his works by creating juxtaposition and through the layering of printed sheets and pictures. The pictures are ultimately just a tool, a commodity to more fully express his creativity. He reworks the images by digital scanning: major surgery for some of his characters, and completely recreates others, reinventing his stories through the manipulation of old photos. For him this is a way to depict his obsession with all things from the past.
Painting with oils allows the artist to play with transparency, as he uses scraping and different application methods to produce a final surface full of information to decipher. Thanks to this very special ritual, Felix manages to introduce the viewer to his world which has a certain mystery, where old clichés come to life.
Felix’s technique is very present in his art, allowing the viewer to discover many rough edges, which gives texture to and enhances his paintings. He also hides phrases, words and verbs, within the works in conjunction with the addition of colors, rips and asymmetrical scenes that animate the background. One must come closer and look for small hidden details.
Thus the artist invents and plays with codes. He designs a very unique artistic language: the past seen without melancholy.
