Mimi The Clown | Contemporary Artist: Artworks & Biography

Mimi The Clown
  • France
MIMI the ClowN’s singular and dedicated style is marked by its sociological, anthropological and social approach. The hypocrisy and demagogy of class politics, the ignorance of poverty, the cynicism of leaders, religions, the absurdity of a world that destroys rather than creates, but also the creation and positive energy that are the result of this and which stand against it; the arts, music, all these things are dealt with by the artist as many sensitive points that define failure in the onward march of a world which must be faced by staying ahead, continuing to think, learning to react. \n MIMI the ClowN brandishes “spectacular graffiti” in the face of this ambient “unhappiness” (“tristitude”), as the artist calls it, a style of which he is the agent, which mixes humour, the universe of the circus and social engagement. His incisive and provocative stencils cover the walls of our streets. Between political messages and apocalyptic visions the artist launches a harsh criticism of a society of consumption and spectacle. He always prepares the base with several layers of acrylic paint, like so many imitations of old illustrations that the artist’s discourse is recovering, and so plays with the superimposed dimension of writing and meaning.\n The artist often represents himself as his alter ego in his palimpsest collages that demonstrate a neo-punk aesthetic: preacher, bearer of anger for society and social demands). The red nose thus becomes the leitmotiv of a way of thinking that defends liberty and humour; that utilises public space as a democratic place of expression; and which advocates language as a necessary way of reacting against the intolerance of a world that wishes to snuff out poetry and creativity.
