Laila Vázquez Kuri has always remembered the exact moment that her mother passed on her artistic sensibility. During her childhood in Mexico City, she shared her small embroidery work with her, where she learned patience and the art of detail. A few years later, she moved to Monterrey, where she discovered a new artistic language: watercolour. “And when I started painting, I felt I had discovered a passion that would enrich my whole life.” For more than 8 years, she devoted herself to watercolour until a stronger interest in paper made her dive into engraving. She experimented with linocuts, xylography and embossing, and each of these techniques allowed her to discover different ways of working with paper. After living away from her hometown for more than 20 years, she returned to reconnect with embroidery.
