Brooksby showed an early aptitude for drawing. To keep up with her father's business travels, her family constantly travels throughout the United States. From this itinerant childhood, the American artist kept a real appetite for wandering. At the age of eight, she was already studying model drawing at the University of California in Los Angeles. Two years later, she apprenticed with a Japanese ceramist in West Virginia, and then became interested in photography. At art school, she discovered a passion for sculpture and graduated in 1987, just before moving to Florence, Italy, where she has lived for over twenty years.
