A PAINTING WITH A AFFIRMED STYLE

Not content with Impressionism, the painter turned to the art of Africa and Asia, which he found more symbolic and profound. Gauguin's paintings became less subtle and shallower. The painter used more vibrant colors and thicker outlines. The bright colors of Gauguin's paintings will have a great influence on famous artists such as Matisse, Picasso, and more broadly, the world of Cubism.

WHO WAS PAUL GAUGUIN AND HOW DID HIS PAINTING COME ABOUT?

His real name was Eugene Henri Paul, a post-impressionist artist born in Paris on June 7, 1848. He was the son of the journalist Clovis Gauguin and of Aline Maria Chazal, the daughter of the pro-socialist leader Flora Tristan. He died of syphilis in French Polynesia on May 8, 1903, at the age of 54.

During his lifetime, the painter was not very successful. In 1891 he found himself in the tropics. He spent the rest of his life painting and doing odd job

Paul Gauguin's awakening to art and painting

At the age of three, motivated by the political climate of the time, his family left Paris for Peru. During the trip, Paul's father died, leaving his mother and sister alone. For four years, Paul Gauguin lived with his mother and sister with his uncle in Lima, Peru. These four years will have a great influence on his art.
