Born in Derby, England, in 1979, Daniel Murgatroyd has lived in France since 2002. A self-taught painter, he has devoted himself full-time to his art since 2021. Through his urban and seascapes, he seeks to convey the atmosphere of a place rather than its details. His impressionistic style of movement and light invites the viewer to feel the energy of a moment, like an open door to a sensory memory.

Daniel Murgatroyd paints with acrylics and oils, using an intuitive, gestural approach. His work is based on successive layers of material, straightforward brushstrokes and an almost tactile texture. Inspired by the energy of cities, the freedom of seascapes and the Impressionist heritage, he seeks above all to balance structure and freedom. He suggests without freezing, evokes without describing. Each canvas becomes a fragment of suspended emotion, where the eye is free to imagine, feel and inhabit the moment.
