Contemplative by nature, I have the feeling of observing human energy and feel the need to cross other borders, Africa, Indonesia, Philippines, India...
Sylvie Colin’s passion for painting began at a very early age when the young girl joined the Ecole des Arts Décoratifs in Strasbourg aged 16. But very quickly, her creative force was not able to contain her rebellious personality and the artist was forced to leave the beaten paths of the institution. Even freer then in her practice, she began engaging the great societal topics, which she criticises humorously.
Confronting the boundaries, the artist goes on a search for another world. Africa, Indonesia, the Philippines, the Indies, she brings back from these precious trips the main ingredient of her compositions: white, light, transparency.
A dreamer, imaginative and contemplative, Sylvie feeds off of man, his emotions, his morals but also his cultures.
Mixing techniques to serve her expression, she orchestrates her world using her paintbrush with delimited and contrasted touches. Collages of newspaper cuttings, folded or destroyed photographs, sand, acrylics, pencil, the superimposing of materials and textures allows us to glimpse a faraway world, almost always monochrome, in which colour, in rhythm, hides and then appears via projection, by dripping. The white thus cuts out imprecise, almost ghost-like silhouettes, like an invitation to enter the painting. There, another reading transports the viewer little by little towards other horizons, in a dialogue that is always fertile with imagination.
