Florence Launay | Contemporary Artist: Artworks & Biography

Native to Brittany, Florence is trained in photography, computer graphics and visual arts techniques through various courses of study and experiences, which she mostly practices in the Paris region.\n In 1999 she decided to return and establish herself in St Malo, Brittany, in order to devote herself entirely to her passion for painting and engraving. Three years later she opened her first private studio there.\n Particularly interested in trends of Outsider Art (l’Art Brut) and Singular Art (l’Art Singulier), as well as the CoBra artistic movement, Florence admires the creative freedom of members such as Jean Dubuffet and “the enthusiastic use of colour free from the constraints of realism”.\n Her works of art are the result of combinations with many visual expressions and drawing techniques as well as materials. The artist draws her graphical inspiration from Street Art, reworking typefaces as dynamic elements, which form part of the piece and give it an infinite multitude of interpretations. This also holds true for the many materials that Florence works with (plaster, metal, glass, plexiglass, various collages etc.) which allow the artist to constantly reinvent and enrich her personal “language”.\n In recent years her experimental work has led her to focus on one particular technique, that of “reverse glass painting” (fixé sous verre) which entails creating the piece – in reverse – onto glass or plexiglass by applying layer upon layer of paint. The colours emerge more radiant, ""the power and joyfulness of the shades together with the words create a poetic and dreamlike universe which sets the imagination free according to the individual’s state of mind”.
