Hana Seo | Contemporary Artist: Artworks & Biography

Hana Seo
  • Korea (the Republic of)
Hana went to university to study design, but soon realized that this was not the right thing for her, and she opted for an education in painting. During her elementary school years, Hana had the chance to discover and practice traditional folk painting, an ancient discipline that she now teaches to her students. The knowledge she acquires in the exercise of this singular pictorial and iconographic genre leads her to develop her own artistic language, without however moving away from the ancestral know-how. Using natural pigments - made from clay mixed with crushed leaves and flowers - Hana composes her designs on a unique paper called "hanji" - Although deeply influenced by the pictorial heritage of her ancestors, Hana's modernist style is a departure from it. Incorporating elements from the contemporary world into her works, the artist composes "modern folk paintings" inspired by nature and everyday life. Furniture and floral motifs are his two favorite subjects. Since 2014, the artist has been creating a series dedicated to forests, striving to capture their vastness and the mysteriousness that emanates from them.Hana creates an original and colorful universe, imbued with serenity, where the grace of her creations skillfully combines her cultural heritage and her personality. This artistic path is a proposal of hope, of happiness, in response to the constant speed and competition imposed by contemporary societies on individuals.
