Jean-Charles Millepied | Contemporary Artist: Artworks & Biography

Jean-Charles Millepied
  • France
Jean-Charles grew up in a family of artists and musicians. Inspired by this environment, he began his professional career by creating jewelry. It is at the maturity of his life, after various meetings and impregnations in the world of arts, that he decides to devote himself to painting. He then joined the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. \The currents of lyrical abstraction in France and the American abstract expressionists influenced him as well as his trips to Africa and the Indian Ocean. For Jean-Charles, any discovery (travel or encounter) is a source of inspiration. \In his technique Jean-Charles uses acrylics enhanced with prints and collages. In his painting, the act of painting creates the intention and not the opposite. Gestural traces, rhythm and intensity come to animate fields rich in colors and materials of the past. The artist tracks down the material, retouches it, diverts it. His painting is spontaneous and is part of a dynamic and fiery abstraction. \The main theme of his works is linked to notions of appearances, disappearances, matter and spirit. Jean-Charles has the desire to express raw emotions to which traces, imprints or accidents give a meaning. The writings and symbols come to be superimposed, to be buried within a material rich in colors and strongly structured. It is within these strata that the mysteries of the Origin and the memory that each human carries in the depths of his being are inscribed. Jean-Charles wishes to keep his childlike soul and not forget his dreams and his ability to dream. He wishes above all to arouse interest, to question, to create a shock, an emotion, to intrigue, but above all to give happiness to any person not wearing the blinkers of Art History. Jean-Charles wants to rehabilitate the disqualified emotions of our childhood. His work awakens in the spectator a call to gaiety and a warm and spontaneous reverie.
