Jean-Pierre Beroard | Contemporary Artist: Artworks & Biography

Jean-Pierre Beroard
  • France
Since childhood, Jean-Pierre shows great aptitude in drawing. He spends school hours scribbling in his school notebooks. A relative who works in a printing company encourages him to follow this path. This is how he joined the graphic arts training program at the Estienne school in Paris. There he learned the profession of photoengraver, which he practiced for 35 years for the Parisian press. During his professional travels, he discovered the landscapes and villages of the Southwest. Then life brought him to the banks of the Loire in Orleans and along the water to Brittany. The changing colors and the ever present light deeply inspire him. Jean-Pierre draws and paints all these natural spectacles that he attends. In spite of his profession, he never stops drawing because it is for him an important means of relaxation and reflection in his life. \Jean-Pierre shows his preference for watercolor from the beginning and will not give up. He refined his technique over time to obtain a more and more precise and detailed painting. To elaborate his backgrounds, he works the watercolor on wet paper (so that the color spreads). When the time comes to create the foregrounds, he works dry to obtain maximum precision. The first plans are wet if necessary to create effects of transparency. \The profession of photoengraver corresponds to his taste for the meticulousness and the rigour. He exercises these qualities in watercolor in the same way with great personal pleasure. Jean-Pierre mentally records the landscapes and scenes that touch him. He eventually takes some notes. Then, all his creative work takes place in the studio without any other model than the mental photograph of his subject.\nFrom his numerous trips to France, Jean-Pierre keeps a particular emotion for all these landscapes with their undeniable charm. He likes to offer and share with his viewers a little piece of the land they have in common.
