Maria Ana Furman | Contemporary Artist: Artworks & Biography

Maria Ana Furman
  • Argentina
Maria Ana grew up in the tumultuous and contrasted city of Buenos Aires where she soaked up the ambience and colours of South America which would eventually make their mark on her work. From an early age, she showed an interest in art and music. She attended a secondary school specialised in graphic arts and discovered her vocation as a painter. She studied at the School of Arts in her hometown, where she learned the techniques of traditional painting as well as other disciplines such as design and visual communication. \n Maria Ana is very fond of childish, imaginary and feminine worlds. Her paintings are urban poetry where she portrays intimate scenes in hushed and luminous ambiences. Through her canvases, the spectator enters a playful and colourful world. \n Several subjects are omnipresent: ballerinas, flying fish, doors opening to other worlds and especially ""hopscotch"". She reproduces to infinity the grid of this game in which by the luck of a thrown stone it is possible to reach heaven.\n The artist works in acrylics and creates photographic effects by including snapshots that she has taken herself. She likes this fusion of materials and textures, which underlines the contrast between reality and the imagination. She uses mixed medium: photography, painting and fabric to evoke feminineness. \n Maria Ana enjoys creating ambiences, allowing herself to be immersed in an idea and portraying it through symbols. \n Today a professor at the Fine Arts School of Buenos Aires, it is the artist’s turn to transmit the techniques that she has developed. Her contact with the students is a permanent inspiration for her to renew her art. Maria Ana also participates in collective artistic dance performances and this other mode of expression allows her to experiment with new lines and curves that she finds through the body’s movements.
