Patricia Thiers | Contemporary Artist: Artworks & Biography

Originally from Marseille (France), Patricia has lived in Barjols (France) for the last 13 years, in the heart of ""Green Provence"". In this village, the leather industry has left impressive buildings in a wasteland. It was in one of these unusual places that Patricia chose to set up shop, like many other artists. Boosted by exchanges and collective exhibitions, the old tanneries of Barjols have indeed become conducive to the creative impulses of their residents.\n Attracted by painting from a very young age, Patricia had to give up studying art due to the reluctance of her parents. It was not until the early 1990’s that the encouragement of her family encouraged her to reconnect with her passion from youth. For four years she attended various weekly workshops led by the Faculty of Fine Arts of Marseille, where she mastered drawing techniques through exercises based on live models. Then in 1997, with the success of her first exhibition in Cassis (France) her vocation was definitively confirmed.\n With a particular admiration for Modern Art, Patricia is particularly fascinated by Delacroix (French painter, nineteenth century) and his ability to suggest movement. The key elements that guide her creative processes every day are colour, light and transparency. The artist likes to come up against colours, materials and opacities. After a period in Africa in the mid-2000s, she tends towards rural, urban and marine landscapes. Between abstract and figurative, her works are meant to be spontaneous and instinctive, but despite the artist they feed on her rich visual memory. Patricia carefully prepares her backgrounds in acrylic and oil, which she combines with graffiti, which is also found on her recent sculptures. They serve as a bridge between the two disciplines, between two ways of expressing her obsession for balance.
