My work question the relationships between human beings and the universe.
In turns, an interior decorator, set designer, painter and sculptor, Gabriela Iñiguez Snyder is a multi-talented artist, who has always been passionate about everything to do with creation. In 1969, and as part of a cultural exchange, the young student would temporarily leave her home country Mexico to live in Canada for six months; she would take advantage of this opportunity to produce two mural paintings, which would decorate the facades of the Merritt public library in British Columbia, and an Ontarian communal school in Thunder Bay. Then, from the beginning of the 1970s, Gabriela would apply herself to cultivating her taste for the arts and began assiduously working on enriching her expertise. To this end, she followed many courses and practical placements at the heart of renowned institutions, both in Mexico and Italy, and took part in various national and international competitions. Alongside this, between 1996 and 2015, she produced over 1,000 sculptures for the Institute of Technology and Higher Education in Monterrey, based in the north of Mexico.
Having established herself in the town of Cuernavaca, the capital of the State of Morelos, in the mid-1980s, Gabriela invariably attempts to re-transcribe on canvas her love for the beauty of her country, its culture and its customs. As such, through the use of oil paints and watercolours, the artist produces exclusively figurative works, which question the relationships between human beings and the universe. Carried out with finesse and in relatively warm tones, the subjects are often bathed in an intense light, which reinforces the dreamlike character of their representation and gives the ensemble a sort of historical and symbolical timelessness.
