Ying Cai grew up in China in the 1960s. At that time, his country was going through a tormented period: that of the great cultural revolution of Mao Tse-Tung. These upheavals consisted mainly in eradicating traditional values. In this troubled and agitated context, he became passionate about painting. \As a child, he often went to draw in nature with an easel made by himself. He also drew for the school newspaper. Later, during his military service, he worked as a painter in the Communication Division. Over the years, his passion grew and he decided to make it his profession. \In spite of the difficult political context, brake with its training, Ying Cai never gives up painting. He is interested in everything and constantly seeks to enrich his knowledge of Art. He studied with the famous master Huang Jun the painting of female subjects. The teacher appreciated him and gave him good advice. His technique progressed rapidly thanks to hard work. In the middle of the 80's, he started to exhibit his works. He paints with watercolors in a meticulous way of birds, flowers or characters. He is inspired by traditional and decorative drawing techniques. From the beginning, Chinese painting in ornamental form has had a memorial function. This thousand-year-old art, stemming from a culture of wisdom and patience, allows the artist to transcribe a deep questioning about life. \ìNYing Cai likes to represent traditional China, its old streets and its large Sophoras (Asian shrubs). The faster his country evolves, the more nostalgic he becomes. His painting is a resistance to a world that changes too quickly in his eyes.
