Forget Christophe | Contemporary Artist: Artworks & Biography

Forget Christophe
  • France
Initially trained in drawing and watercolor, artist Christophe Forget uses line and watercolor to develop an ever-richer research into the fantasy and representation of nature, its immutable, majestic and almost sacred character. Then initiating himself to the technique of engraving and more particularly to the monotype, the artist multiplies the interpretations of the vegetable world which imposes itself to him as a subject abounding in surprises, mysteries, and allowing a spontaneous and always renewed experiment of the drawing, the forms and the colors.\nParallel to this inspiring nature, the beings which come to populate it little by little evoke as for them a form of duality or complementarity of the animal or human species, in search of their origin, of their identity, of their nature. Plunged into the heart of a timeless, unreal universe, of a mythology built from the imagination of each one, from the collective unconscious, the hybrid characters of Christophe Forget struggle with their contradictions, their complexity. Anonymous witnesses, their masks allow them to embody the universal by a process of dissimulation, subtraction and erasure. By moving away from any individuality, they evolve like the shadows of the others, the possible alter ego of each one.\nThe technique of the artist proceeds thus in the same way. In the manner of a subtraction, she digs the matter in order to reveal its essence, its light, its form.
