Paul grew up in England and studied at the Liverpool School of Art where he specialised in Industrial Design. At age 20 he moved to Canada, and shortly after his arrival he decided to devote himself fully to painting.
After having experimented with various painting techniques (oils, charcoal, ink) he chose acrylic on canvas because of its short drying time. Paul has a sustained pace of painting and immerses himself for hours in his paintings. His endless inspiration comes from his travels and the people he meets. He also takes into account advice and emotions of those near to him, especially his wife who holds an important place in his artistic career.
His work is varied because he likes to constantly explore new styles and techniques. Paul uses bright colours to give momentum and energy to his painting. He appreciates complex compositions and rich symbols, even while seeking a kind of equilibrium on the canvas.
When painting abstract works, Paul does not intellectualise his painting. He is simply trying to express the energy, joy and desire in him. Always leaving free rein to his instincts, he discovers almost with curiosity, what his hand has painted.
For landscapes and faces, he finds inspiration in his travels. He lives half of the year in North America, and the other half in Europe (Spain, England and France). He paints what he sees around him when he is struck by the beauty or character of a landscape.
He alternates between realism, expressionism and surrealism with his main inspiration being painters such as Dali, Gauguin and above all, Van Gogh.
Paul has also been a noted muralist for many years. He has participated in some of the most important murals in Canada and the United States, including one for the United Nations.
