Yan.F enjoyed doing manual work during his childhood and devoted his holidays to making a variety of objects using artisanal wood working machines designed by his grandfather. "He kept his love of handmade objects from his childhood." When he was a teenager, the artist from Lorraine became more interested in sports and seasonal activities, and devoted less time to his experiments, leaving his hobby behind. He did, however, remain close to alternative and urban cultures.
Just shy of turning thirty, Yan.F returned to his first pieces and began to paint and sculpt again, thus arousing the secret desire to one day become and artist. About ten years later he finally took the leap and began to dedicate himself entirely to creating art. Upon launching his website in 2013, the artist made his new professional activity official by sharing his pieces with the public.
Yan.F is greatly inspired by creations by street artists from the 1990's and designs his canvases by juxtaposing layers, assembling collages and drawings, augmented by acrylic paint, spray paints, Posca and other visual techniques. His gestures are vivacious and resonate with the recurring appearance of graffiti, giving his pieces their sculptural quality. His canvases are striking and strongly colourful. They display great dynamic force thanks to a strong implicit narrative.Yan.F has recourse to the use of universal symbols associated with images taken from pop and underground culture. He gives us the keys to interpret his universe, which is as corrosive as it is poetic.
