Always passionate about built heritage, the young artist of Polish origin was trained in the know-how and techniques of architectural drawing at the University of Krakow. Diploma in hand, she stayed in England and Spain for a while, before coming to settle in France. There, she began a training course in visual arts and graphics at the School of Fine Arts in Nantes, while participating in the realisation of various creative projects. An artist of many talents and interests, Joanna practices illustration, as well as painting, comics, animation and linocuts.
From June to September 2016, she and her partner Nicolas Kovalenko, also a painter, opened an ephemeral gallery workshop in Bonnieux. Set up since then in this Provencal village located in the heart of the Luberon Massif, Joanna divides her time between the development of her artistic production, the teaching of architectural drawing and the organisation of introductory animation sessions.
Using ink associated with watercolour, the painter creates her landscapes and scenes of unposed daily life or according to photography without preliminary sketching. This so-called freehand technique, which allows a resolutely free movement, while guaranteeing lightness in the line, results in a style of great sensitivity, combining skill and intuition. Focusing on warm tones, playing with nuances and shades of colours, Joanna was able to capture the light beautifully to convey the familiar and characteristic atmosphere of the southern regions.
