Fred Wieser | Contemporary Artist: Artworks & Biography

Fred Wieser
  • Netherlands (the)
Fred graduated in art from the University of Utrecht in 1979 and started his professional life as a decorator for the miniature village in the Madurodam Park in The Hague (Netherlands). This first rewarding experience confirmed his desire to devote his time to a purely artistic activity. The need to paint grows in his mind a little more every day. \In search of his own pictorial language, the artist first turned to a figurative style. He soon abandoned it in favor of more abstract figures and became closer to the art of Ron van der Werf (Dutch) and Giuliano Censini (Italian). \Fred finds his inspiration in the little things of everyday life from which he tunes his colors. His vibrant palette follows the rhythm of the seasons (ochres and browns in autumn, pastels and vivid hues in summer...), the particular atmosphere of old facades charged with history or any other motif borrowed from everyday life. White is frequently used in his compositions to highlight the intensity of the other tones. \The artist opposes the vitality of colors to the fixity of geometric forms. Each of his works is ordered in the same way: a central core composed of rectangular or square motifs gathered on a background divided by two main colors (white and black, grey and white, orange and blue...). It incites him to constantly renew himself and to master several materials. His canvases are composed of layers of paint. Fred takes care to apply the darker colors first and then the lighter shades. The darker shades are then left visible through. The original use of transparency combined with a subtle play of textures creates an illusion of depth. \Like a magician, the painter brings matter and relief to a medium that is usually so flat.
