Coline Rohart
"I am a Woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal Woman,
that's me." Maya angelou
A young French painter, Coco Rohart hopes to encourage women to feel beautiful and free. She has always been attracted to art, painting and colors. As a child, she spent a lot of time in her grandfather's painting studio and discovered a particular interest in art classes. She also practiced music by playing the saxophone, until she obtained her musical studies certificate. After graduating from Sciences Po Aix and the University of Paris Dauphine, Coco Rohart worked in New York, Paris and Los Angeles. In 2017, when she met the artist NUSHKA, she discovered oil painting and fell in love with it. Naturally, she started painting again and set up her studio in Marseille in 2020. In 2021, Coco Rohart met the figurative painter Sarah Sedwick who became her mentor. At her side, she learns the mechanics of color and composition.
Cocoline mainly uses oil paint that she pairs with other mediums such as wax and acrylic to create different results. She paints alla prima, meaning staight on the canvas or on a wet layer. The artist completes most of her canvases in one sitting using a model in her studio or photos she's taken beforehand. The painter's signature theme is women from mythology and the present day. Cocoline sees women through kind, gentle and grateful eyes and tries to depict them differently to get away from the usual portrayal of women's bodies as sexual or maternal. Painting has helped Cocoline to feel better and more confident; she hopes to do the same to make women feel beautiful and free.\n
